In a near future, Asta and her two best friends must win the California Science and Engineering Fair – a feat not accomplished by girls in decades. Their only chance to break the losing streak is to make a big enough splash – like entering the California office of USA’s best security company under false pretense to pitch their ant drones against the company’s impenetrable network – so the jury can’t ignore their entry. Unfortunately, their timing is horrendous as just as Asta has left, a lockdown of the office alerts the head of the company, Ella Lucas, to a security breach which her grandson, Seth, attributes to Asta. The hunt is on. While Asta is on the run, she and her friends must use their analytical brains, creativity, and compassion to figure out what connects Ella’s ambitions, the decade old unsolved murder of Seth’s parents and gramps, the impossible gene editing therapy that has mitigated Asta’s sever autism with the side effect of transitioning her into the gender-correct body, and aliens while convincing the adults in their lives to listen to them.
